Historical corpus of the Cabildo of La Palma

A historical corpus for exploring the government of the Canary Islands in the early modern period

The Cabildo, or municipal council, was the main institution of government on each of the Canary Islands during the early modern period. Its minutes are a fundamental documentary source for the political, economic, social and institutional history of the archipelago from the end of the fifteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth. CADIEM makes the Books of Minutes of the Cabildo de La Palma (1559–1599) available to researchers and to the interested public: eight books and more than 4,000 transcribed and edited pages, accessible through an annotated historical corpus that supports consultation, searching and analysis.
